Your Roll-Off Dumpster is Here! Now What?

Thank you for renting an Oaks roll-off dumpster! We’re so happy to be a part of your disposal journey. If you’re wondering what comes next, this guide is for you.

Load Your Dumpster

Now that your dumpster is safely delivered to your home, it is ready to be loaded! You can safely load the items you are going to dispose of in two different ways.

1. Load in the Top of the Dumpster

Simply toss or place lighter items directly over the side and into the dumpster. Start by placing larger, heavier items on the bottom to create a stable base, then layer smaller items on top to maximize your space.

2. Load Using the Dumpster Access Door

For heavier or bulkier items like appliances, furniture, or large pieces of debris, use the hinged access door on the end of the dumpster. Simply swing the door open, walk your items straight in, and position them flat to make the most of your space.

Dumpster Safety Tips

Dumpsters cannot be hauled when there is too much waste in the dumpster or prohibited items, and our drivers will not be able to transport it safely. Here are some tips to make sure your disposal meets safety parameters.

  1. Make sure to close and lock the dumpster door securely once finished.
  2. Double-check there are no prohibited items* mixed in with your debris.
  3. Make sure all the debris are contained inside the dumpster, and that nothing is sticking out over the top.

*Prohibited items vary by location. Read your service area location page to find out what items are disposable via roll off-dumpster in your area.

Consider the Weather

If there is inclement weather in the forecast and you want to protect the dumpster from taking on water, snow, or the contents being blown by wind, you can protect your dumpster by tarping it. Here is how you can tarp your dumpster.

1. Choose a Tarp

Get a heavy-duty tarp that is large enough to fully cover the open top of your dumpster with a few feet of overhang on each side. Waterproof tarps work best for keeping out rain and snow, while a weighted or reinforced tarp will hold up better in windy conditions.

2. Place the Tarp Over the Dumpster

With the help of another person, drape the tarp evenly over the top of the dumpster, making sure all sides are covered and the overhang is as even as possible.

3. Secure the Tarp

Use bungee cords, rope, or heavy-duty straps to tie the tarp down tightly on all sides. Hook or fasten them to the dumpster's edges or handles, pulling the tarp snug so it won't shift or lift in the wind. Check the tarp periodically during extended rentals to make sure it stays secure, especially after a storm.

4. Remove the Tarp Before Pickup

When your rental period is complete and your scheduled pickup day arrives, be sure to remove the tarp before your dumpster is collected.

Schedule Your Pickup

Once you are finished loading your dumpster, it’s time for pickup! You can schedule your pickup by filling out our pickup request form and a team member will reach out to confirm your pickup.

At Oaks Dumpster Rental, you can keep your dumpster for up to 7 days at no extra charge. If homeowners need an extension, there is an extra fee that will be added to your order total for each additional rental day. We allow customers to keep the dumpster for as long as they need, so pickup for the dumpster must be scheduled by the client once they are ready.
