How to Choose the Right Dumpster for Your Job

How to Choose the Right Dumpster for Your Job

Are you spring cleaning, preparing for a move, or doing some much-needed home improvement projects? You probably need a dumpster to get rid of the debris from your job. You also may not know how to pick the right dumpster. Dumpsters come in a wide array of sizes. How do you determine which one is enough but not too much? After all, you don’t want to pay more for space you don’t need. Keep in mind that dumpsters are measured in square yards. One square yard equals a 3’ by 3’ cube. Oaks Dumpsters is here to help. Read on to find out how to envision what will fit into each size dumpster.

12-Yard Dumpster

Our smallest dumpster is 12’ long by 8’ wide by 4’ tall. This is best for medium-sized projects. This dumpster will hold about 3½ pickup truck loads of debris. For example, this would hold the waste from a small remodeling project, a deck under 300 ft, or the removal of shingles from a roof of less than 1,500 square feet.

15-Yard Dumpster

The dimensions of our 15-yard dumpster are 16’ by 8’ width by 4’. This dumpster will hold roughly 4½ pickup truck loads. This is for slightly larger projects, such as cleaning out a small home.

20-Yard Dumpster

A 20-yard dumpster is 16’ by 8’ by 5’ and holds about 6 pickup truckloads of debris. This translates to carpet removal from a larger home, shingle removal from a roof of over 1,500 square feet, or a medium-sized remodeling project.

30-Yard Dumpster

At 22’ by 8’ by 5’, this dumpster holds approximately 9 pickup truck loads of debris. A 30-yard dumpster is usually used for commercial purposes — new home builds or home additions — but large home cleanouts or other very large jobs may require this much space.

40-Yard Dumpster

The 40-yard dumpster is 22’ by 8’ by 6 ½ ‘. It holds the equivalent of about 12 pickup truck loads. This size is also generally for commercial projects such as a full siding or window replacement.
