5 Tips for Loading Your Dumpster
Whether you’re cleaning out the garage or doing an estate cleanout, a dumpster is a key component of getting the job done quickly and efficiently. You may think that loading a dumpster is as easy as tossing junk into it. By using a few simple tips and tricks, you’ll maximize your dumpster space and make your job progress smoothly!
1. Understand What Can Be Discarded
Before you begin, make sure you understand what types of items are prohibited from being thrown in your roll-off dumpster rental. If you discard hazardous waste or other items that are not allowed in your dumpster, you’ll have to remove them before it goes to the landfill or pay additional fees to the landfill when the junk is sorted. Check with your dumpster rental company for a comprehensive list of prohibited items.
2. Larger Items in First
If you have large items, such as appliances or couches, put these in first. Tiles and wooden boards should also go along the bottom of the bin. This allows you to stack things on top of these bulky items.
3. Fill in the Gaps
Once all of your large items are loaded, there will naturally be gaps between them. Add smaller debris in the gaps to maximize your space. Look at it as a giant puzzle — you want to leave as little empty space as possible.
4. Do Not Overfill
Using tips #2-3 above, you’ll be using your space effectively and should not have items sticking out of the top of your dumpster rental. If your bin is full and you have more junk to throw out, call for an empty-and-return service or order an additional dumpster. Many dumpster rental companies will not haul overfilled bins.
5. Distribute Weight Evenly
Do your best to distribute weight evenly across the dumpster. If the weight is not even, the dumpster could tip during loading or when in transit to the landfill. Avoid this dangerous situation by doing your best to balance the weight.
